The parasite is transmitted through the oral-fecal route, primarily via contaminated food or water. Produce, such as berries, herbs, and leafy greens, is a common source of infection, especially if it is eaten raw. This is because the parasite can survive on the surface of fruits and vegetables. Contaminated drinking water can also be a source, particularly in regions with inadequate sanitation.
